During several months, students of 4th and 5th grade of the Jean de La Fontaine School at La Gacilly worked with the Festival and artist Marynn Gallerne about Jean-Baptiste Thierry's local photographic fund. This fund was given by the photograph's family to the La Gacilly Patrimoine association and digitized for the occasion.
This meeting has been the central theme of the students and Marynn Gallerne's work during this school residency. A meeting with a photograph who had left an artistic practice of a city that evolved with known or unknown people.

"Gaciliens Portraits" : in the footsteps of Jean-Baptiste Thierry, photograph in La Gacilly (1951-1960)
By the 4th and 5th grade student of the Jean de La Fontaine school.
In partnership with the La Gacilly Photo Festival, La Gacilly Patrimoine and the support of the DRAC Bretagne and the city of La Gacilly, the students of Mrs Julie Sehedic's class followed a series of artistic and cultural education workshops with the photographer Marynn Gallerne and the mediation team of the Festival.
Thanks to this work realized and presented by the students, this meeting between them and Marynn Gallerne was kindly and creative of social tie.
Starting from the photographic fund left by Jean-Baptiste Thierry at the La Gacilly Patrimoine association and the work carried out at the same time by the photographer in residency, the students discovered the different status of image, documentary or archive of creation.
By apprehending the shooting sequences or "contacts" and by widening the gaze to the off-screen, they were able to wonder about the realization of the images, the intentions of the photographer, and to understand a process of photographic creation.
All along this EAC project, student producted images. First, it was portraits of their family circle, then, accompanied by the artist, mediators of the Festival and their teacher, they met inhabitants, know or unknown who played along the meeting. Those are the portraits that are presented here.
Their work are now visible on the school's railings, behind the church.
